IN todays issue I wanted to ask you a simple question… actually maybe not so simple..
What would you do?
Here’s a scenario most of us will face if we are taking care of parents.
Your parent is a smoker.. and they are currently on oxygen 24/7
They have a portable unit that they take with them and they occassionally still smoke.
Since they are up in age they dont really drive well- they smoke while driving with spare oxygen tanks in the trunk.
Do you take away the car?
If you do then you now become the “chauefer” and must rearrange your schedule
For doctor appts - shopping -etc.
WHAT DO YOU DO ? |
This is NOT AN EASY Decision so take a second and vote above
NOW LET ME TELL YOU WHAT I DID
There is no right or wrong …
But when you take away a seniors car you are also taking away their freedom in a sense
They now can not go wherever they want whenever they want…
I DID TAKE AWAY MY DADS CAR
IT was very difficult for him and for me but here’s the key lesson I learned !
I NOW NEEDED TO BECOME MORE CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR HEALTH AND SAFETY THEN THEIR HAPPINESS…
Its a VERY important lesson-
Yes it meant extra burden for me to now shop and drive him to appts and other places
but it was much more important to me that he was safe!
