Vitamin D supplements may help improve blood pressure, cholesterol, and insulin

  • According to a new meta-study, an average supplemental dose of 3,320 IU of vitamin D per day is associated with reduced blood pressure, total cholesterol, hemoglobin A1C, and fasting blood insulin and glucose.

  • The finding comes from a new meta-study of 99 randomized, controlled trials from around the world investigating the benefits of vitamin D for cardiometabolic health.

  • The meta-study attempts to explain and distill findings of sometimes inconsistent studies regarding vitamin D.

A new, comprehensive review of existing, often conflicting, research on the benefits of vitamin D supplementation extracts a fresh view of its value in maintaining cardiometabolic health.

The authors of the meta-study found that taking a median dose of 3,320 International Units (IU) of vitamin D per day, or around 83 micrograms, was associated with several significant cardiometabolic benefits.

These benefits included reductions in systolic and diastolic blood pressure, overall cholesterol, hemoglobin A1C—a marker of type 2 diabetes—and fasting blood glucose and insulin.

FINANCE AND INVESTING TIPS FOR THE SANDWICH GENERATION

Why saving for retirement has become a challenge for the "sandwich generation"

Dracut, Massachusetts — Dinnertime at the Gomez residence in the suburban Boston town of Dracut means feeding three generations.

"It's crazy," Alicia Gomez told CBS News of the seven family members who live together under one roof. "We're raising my niece and nephew. My mother lives with us and my sister lives with us."

Alicia, 56, is the chief operating officer for a nonprofit, and her 58-year-old husband Chu Gomez works in logistics. They are part of the so-called "sandwich generation" of workers who support both young relatives and aging parents.

"I equate it to a turkey club sandwich, because a club sandwich has a lot of layers, and we have a lot of layers," Alicia said.

RESULTS OF LAST WEEKS POLL - Would You Take Away A Parents Car if they were clearly unfit to drive.
While the majority said pray for the best I actually did take away my dads car because I felt he was a danger to himself and others..
was it hard- HELL YES!!
But I never looked back and while it added MUCH more responsibilty and time for me to take him to appts and shopping… I still felt good about it
I feel we are often afraid of making parents unhappy
BUT I REALIZED- MY JOB WAS TO KEEP THEM SAFE NOT HAPPY since they were no longer making good decisions.. much as they did for me when I was a child

YOUR JOB
The ‘Sandwich Generation’ Is Being Squeezed: U.S. Caregivers Are Experiencing High Levels Of Financial Stress And Workplace Burnout

American families are facing unprecedented pressures as they grapple with inflation, soaring costs and a competitive job market for professionals. For many couples, this economic strain is compounded by the responsibility of caring for multiple generations simultaneously. Known as the "sandwich generation," these individuals find themselves squeezed between the demands of raising their own children while also tending to the needs of their aging parents.

This dual caregiving role, coupled with the current economic challenges, is creating a perfect storm of stress and financial burden for a growing number of people in the United States.

According to data from AARP, over 53 million American adults—more than one in five—are currently serving as unpaid family caregivers. In 2021, family caregivers delivered 36 billion hours of unpaid care, which is valued at $600 billion.

One of the major pain points impacting the sandwich generation is financial strain, as they frequently provide economic support to both their parents and children while attempting to secure their own financial stability.
